Resumo: The instability of natural and built slopes is a recurrent problem on the plateaus of Serra do Mar, fostering a diversity of studies concerning slope instability. The road works installed on these plateaus present recurrent geotechnical problems, involving accelerated erosions and mass movements on cut slopes. The geological and geotechnical studies can be applied to conservation of already installed works and to plan future ones, contributing to the reduction of road maintenance costs and avoiding the development of mass movements that may limit or prevent the vehicles traffic, put road users at risks and cause significant environmental impacts. This research presents a systematic geological and geotechnical mapping with progressive detailing, in regional scale (1:250.000), semi detailed scale (1:100.000) and detailed scale (1:10.000), conducted from photo interpretation techniques allied to field works, aiming to evaluate the susceptibility of the physical environment to the development of instabilities on cut slopes of road projects. The mapping systematic here presented mainly considered the properties: frangibility, entropy, slope form, top form, valley form, declivity, altimetry, pattern and density of drainage, allowing infer the geotechnical behavior of the constituent materials of the mapped compartments. The structural lineaments were also mapped, allowing the analysis of the structural conditioners of road slopes instability, showing themselves important indicators of the geometrical relations between the discontinuities of rock masses and the slope faces. The largest convergences of unfavorable evidences to slope stability were indentified in the Paraitinga and Natividade provinces, in the Pt2, Pt1, Nt2 e Pb zones, in the I, IV, V, VI e VIII unities and in the sectors where the structural lineaments intercept the road route, representing parallel, oblique or perpendicular discontinuities to the cut slopes. The information and ...
