Resumo: The present study privileges the architectural and urban heritage and defines a specific region, known as the Triple Border, constituted by the municipalities of Foz do Iguaçu (State of Paraná, Brazil), Metropolitan Region of Ciudad del Este (Department of Alto Paraná, Paraguay) and Puerto Iguazú (Province of Misiones, Argentina). As architecture and urbanization processes in border areas are still little studied today, the international region under study - the most dynamic in South America and the place where the Iguaçu and Paraná rivers meet - demonstrates to contain a precious collection to be known and researched. In this sense, the objective of this research is to understand how the records of architectural structures recognized as relevant for the preservation of this cultural heritage occur, considering the primordial, before any preservationist action, the realization of an architectural and urban inventory of the border cities of the present study, involving the registration and systematization of the information collected. The strategies used in this research - of the applied type, of an exploratory character and mixed approach, combine or associate different quantitative and qualitative methods (mixed-methodology). Thus, the methodological proposal divides the work into well-characterized stages, which include bibliographic review -based on historical documentary research and field surveys - as instruments of data collection, whose procedures allow the quantification of the heritage considered important for preservation, through applying questionnaires and conducting structured interviews. The analysis and interpretation of the results guide the verification of the delimited assumptions, related to the importance of carrying out the inventory - for the identification of the assets to be recognized and protected; its articulation with municipal policies and planning strategies; the establishment of alliances to reinforce the processes of joint regional actions and perhaps the feasibility of building policies and integrated instruments to safeguard the cultural heritage of these municipalities.
