Resumo: Wind energy is one of the most affordable forms of renewable energy. An efficient way to convert kinetic energy from wind into electrical energy is by using wind turbines coupled to electric generators. The objective of this project was the construction of a vertical axis wind turbine, composed of a SAE 1020 carbon steel tubular structure, and blades formed by an aluminum alloy structure and polycarbonate coated in the design of a drop. An automotive alternator, a battery and a bank of electrical resistors were coupled to this turbine, forming a complete system of isolated wind generation. Using this set, it was possible to calculate the system efficiencies and obtain some performance curves of the wind turbine, thus determining the Average Wind Power of 782.41 (W), Average Mechanical Power of 33.63 (W), Average Generation Electric Power (W), Wind-Mechanical Efficiency Average of 4.30 (%), Mechanical-Electrical Efficiency Average of 26.06 (%) and Total Wind-Electric Efficiency Average of 1.12 (%).
