Resumo: The objective of this research is the analyzes of the mediated speech of the Brazil s Landless Workers Movement (MST) in order to detect the social imaginary significations that compose it, as the landless define their identity, who they are and what they want. The present work is based on the concepts of imagination and social institution as developed by Greek philosopher Cornelius Castoriadis; on the linguistic concepts of dialogism and polyphony by Mikhail Bakhtin, to whom every type of communication consists of a kind of dialogue, with questions and answers; and on the concepts of ideology and mediation by John B. Thompson, who writes about the mediated interactions through the means of communication and discusses the use of ideological use symbolic forms. It is about a linguistic study, in which we try to distinguish what voices are spoken on MST speech and the strategies are used to build their identity. As this research is about materialistic analyzes of MST speech, we can empathize the workers organization social historic context. The methodology used is bibliographic research, first of the social historical context of rural workers ; then of the theoretical; and, finally, of the texts of identification and the MST purposes to be seen, available in the movement Internet home page.
