Resumo: | The following paper aims to analyze the operation of the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo in June 2013 during the street protests against the increase in public transportation fare, which turned into a heterogeneous movement involving millions of Brazilians, given that throughout the month of June there were also guidelines such as Education, Health and Safety conditions on the country, which would later be known as “June's Journeys”. We focused on demonstrating that the previously mentioned press, acting as a private device of hegemony, printed a demoralizing and criminalizing image of the organization formed mostly by workers and students by showing its damage to city property and omitting its political claims. Since the press clearly suggested measures to contain the protests, we endeavor in comprehend the position assumed and maintained by Folha de São Paulo during the “June's Journeys” and if it spread the same ideas during the full coverage of the process, because although its perspective was not static, it surely revolved towards a liberal view. |
