Emotions plays a big role during the process of argumentation , sometimes can facilitate the persuasion. Emotions have been used in speeches to assist persuasion since the times of ancient Greece. The political speeches in general catch our attention by being carried through the interaction of politics (speakers) and citizen (audience) instances. And it's in the political speeches where we found a high incidence of the use of emotion to persuade . We realize that the use of emotions by Lula in his political speeches is very common. Through rhetorical studies we analyze in this text the presence of pathos which along with ethos and logos form the three rhetorical proofs created by Aristotle. In a simple way the pathos refers to emotions in speeches, ethos the image the audience has the speaker and logos refer to the logical part of speech. The presence of pathos in the speeches of Lula during conferences of heads of state and social summits of MERCOSUL will be studied through four categories of analysis , which are: metaphorical expressions , aggregators expressions , categorical expressions and expressions of solidarity. These categories were constructed under the assumption that they can instigate the emotions of the audience. These categories were constructed under the assumption that they can induce the emotions of the audience. Throughout the dissertation to realize that the pathos is present in these categories analyzed.
