This research is linked to the research line Society, Knowledge and Education, of the Postgraduate Program in Education of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná – Campus of Francisco Beltrão, and aimed to analyze, investigate, and understand the role of the educator Valdir Pereira Duarte as an organic intellectual, in the formation of leaders and conscious workers in Francisco Beltrão and region. The methodological procedures used for the investigation were the bibliographic survey, interviews using oral history methodology, analysis, and interpretation of texts and various documents written by Valdir Pereira Duarte himself. The reasoning is based on the assumptions of the Gramscian organic intellectual. The problem aims to identify how the theoretical foundations of the educator, Valdir Duarte were articulated in his practical actions as a trainer and organizer of social movements and rural communities in the region. The data obtained show an expressive contribution by Valdir Duarte in the process of formation and organization of popular movements in the region. Since every class has its intellectuals, the research seeks to show who is the organic intellectual and what are the assumptions that Duarte claims as an organic intellectual.
