Resumo: This research was developed in the Society, Knowledge, and Education Research Line of the Postgraduate Program in Education (PPGE) of the State University of Western Paraná (Unioeste), Francisco Beltrão campus - PR. The object of the study is the Novo Ensino Médio (New High School - NHS) at the Escola de Educação Básica Padre Antônio Vieira (Basic Education School Padre Antônio Vieira), in Ipuaçu - SC, with an emphasis on the Projeto de Vida (Life Project) curriculum component and the training of young people. This final stage of basic education has been the subject of discussion not only in the education sector but also in the political and economic sectors, something that has intensified with the publication of Law No. 13,415/2017, which approved the implementation of NHS in schools, based on a flexible curriculum made up of curricular components, such as the Life Project, the scope of which is to guide the conduct of young people in terms of their desires, dreams and professional destinies. This qualitative research aimed to analyze the Life Project curriculum component in the NHS implementation process at Escola de Educação Básica Padre Antônio Vieira, in the municipality of Ipuaçu - SC. The research's methodological and epistemological procedures are based on historical-dialectical materialism, through a case study based on semi-structured interviews with NHS students and teachers who work with the Life Project curriculum component, as well as document analysis and a literature review on the subject. To understand the high school counter-reform process, we studied this stage of basic education and the reforms that have taken place over the years, from the 1990s to the present day. The first chapter discusses the duality of class society and how this is also found in the education of young people. The second chapter describes how NHS was implemented in the state of Santa Catarina and at Escola de Educação Básica Padre Antônio Vieira, which is one of the 120 pilot schools. Finally, the third chapter analyzes the Life Project curriculum component and its (in)certainties in the education of young people at Escola de Educação Básica Padre Antônio Vieira. The results show that there are contradictions in the process of implementing the NHS, as it is centered on a neoliberal ideology, which makes the school offer an education focused on entrepreneurship and youth protagonism, through the Life Project curriculum component, based on the National Common Curricular Base (Base Nacional Comum Curricular – BNCC -, in Portuguese) and an education with curricular flexibility based on competencies and skills, causing a distancing from scientific knowledge.
