Resumo: This work is a study on the construction process of the Itaipu Binacional Hydroelectric Power Plant and the expropriation of the traditional territories of the Avá-Guarani indigenous peoples. These territories were located where today Itaipu is. With the construction of the hydroelectric plant, the Guarani were relocated to neighboring areas. The research aims to understand the socio-environmental and economic aspects, as well as to identify how the environmental and social variables were considered in the period of implementation and human relocation and, subsequently, what were the possible precautions regarding environmental issues and with the indigenous community. In addition, check the future prospects for the existence of both the fauna and flora and the Avá-Guarani. In the research, we found that land is a primordial need for the indigenous way of life and with the construction of the Itaipu Dam, both human life and the life of animal and plant species and all environmental variables have an uncertain future, compromised future prospects for existence or survival. Therefore, the need for policies to guarantee the historical, cultural, environmental and social permanence of what was committed to the construction of Itaipu.
