Resumo: | This work is the result of research carried out in the postgraduate course in Geography, at Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná - Unioeste, Campus de Francisco Beltrão, in the line of research on economic development and territorial dynamics, under the supervision of professor Roselí Alves do Santos. The main objective of this dissertation is to understand the changes and permanences in the swine production structure throughout the history of territorial formation of the mesoregion in the west of Santa Catarina. We outlined four specific objectives to guide our research: to study the historical process of formation of the region which resulted in its current form of territorial organization; to understand the process of modernization of Brazilian agriculture; to analyze the organization of the swine production structure in the State of Santa Catarina and to identify the formation of geographical networks in the organization of swine production. The research is organized around a bibliographic review about the theme in question, emphasizing the geographic science as a tool to analyze the processes. In addition, field work was carried out in order to better understand the economic, social and political dynamics that involve the swine producers and other activities involved. We began the first chapter with a historical review of the main events and conflicts that shaped the region and were important in its formation, linking these aspects to the beginning of the process of implementation and development of the swine production. In the second chapter, we try to explain how pig raising has been structured in the west region, and how the companies and pig raisers organize themselves, their production system models, highlighting the importance of the state participation in this process. Next, in the third chapter, we analyze the concept of geographical networks, highlighting their formation in the face of the swine production, how they are formed, how they act, the subjects and/or organizations that get involved and/or are excluded by the productive dynamics that are configured nowadays. In the fourth chapter, we focus on the swine production in São José do Cedro - SC, seeking to understand the spatial changes and permanences that refer to the practices of the swine producers. |
