Resumo: This dissertation, developed in the Post-Graduation Program in Education at the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (UNIOESTE / Cascavel), aims to analyze, in public municipal schools of Cascavel-PR, the implementation of the Federal Law n. 11.769/08, which provides for the compulsory teaching of Music as a content of the subject Arts in the schools of Elementary Education. Assuming that the music is absent in Art classes as a sequential and curricular practice, we seek to achieve the following objectives: a) to understand the historical and political conditions in which such legislation is configured in Brazilian educational policies, b) investigate what actions are being effected by the municipal government for the realization of this requirement and c) verify how teachers attend to the actions and policies proposed by the Municipal Education. Having the Dialectical historical materialism as the theoretical possibility to guide our interpretation of the politic educational reality that we want to understand, we conducted a research in Primary and Secondary sources, as well as empirical research, which was carried out in two stages: semi-structured interview with the coordinator of Arts at the Municipal Education Bureau and application of a self-administered semi-structured survey for the Arts teachers at Municipal Schools. Through these referrals, we performed a mapping of the implementation of the Music Teaching in Schools in the urban area of Cascavel and weaved some considerations regarding the representations of teachers on the school reality related to the implementation of the Music Education as a component of the Arts curriculum, their knowledge of the legislation and about the Municipal Education Curriculum, their conception of the continuing education, as well as identify how they meet the mandatory implementation of Music Education and their positioning on the actions of the Municipal Education Bureau. The study revealed, among other things, the incongruities in music contents proposed by the Municipal Education Curriculum, the discontinued and fragmented training of the teachers, which has resulted in spontaneity in teaching acting, and the sidelined of the Arts subject by the Municipal Education Bureau
