Resumo: This research aimed to investigate an environmental education practice under development in basic education by analyzing and describing the implementation of the Jataí bee cultivation project (Tetragonisca angustula) in a rural school in Western Paraná, to identify the contributions of this project education for school environmental education and its relationship with sustainable rural development. Throughout the project to raise awareness and conservation of bees in ecosystems, several factors were relevant to its implementation, such as choosing the appropriate bee species for the school environment, setting up gardens and choosing the plants to be cultivated. The results showed that the integration of students with the reality of the environment in which they live is a task that the school should excel in teaching and learning, since the school is the propitious place to sow environmental education developing multipliers and, consequently, conscious citizens seeking from critical thinking and strategies for a better quality of life combined with remediation, preservation and maintenance of the environment for sustainable rural development.
