Resumo: This study aimed to verify the work relationship and habitability of the “marisqueiras” (women who collect shellfish and other seafood from the sea) of São Tomé de Paripe, located in the railroad suburb in the city of Salvador-Bahia. From the questionnaire and data analysis sought to identify the indicators that influence the urban quality of life of the population studied, containing questions divided into thematic blocks: socio-demographic characteristics, environmental conditions, housing and work. The database was analyzed in R 3.1.2 software which was conducted descriptive statistics (frequency absolute / relative, mean and standard deviation) in order to characterize the sample. To identify statistically significant associations between the variables of interest used the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. The significance level adopted for this study was 5%. Information obtained through the collection and analysis of data allowed to profile this sample of workers and know their living conditions, work, health and life. Identifying thus the indicators influencing the quality of life, it was revealed by this research, the difficulties and risks that the “marisqueiras” subject in the practice of their work activities. The results presented and discussed indicators showed the precariousness experienced by these women. Yet it is clear out the bad quality of life is a result of various risk factors, pathogens to which they are exposed, living and working conditions and the lack of social protection. Thus, it was noted that the informal labor practice of seafood tends to socioeconomic vulnerability.
