This research evaluates to what extent the actions and proposals of municipal public policies contributed for urban sustainability and life quality in the city of Vitória da Conquista, in the year 2010. To do so, it seeks the national public policies and public policies of the municipality under study, including the Master Plans of 1976 and of 2006, the Municipal Programs of Popular Housing, the Code of Land Use Planning, and the Municipal Plans for the Environment, verifying how they deal with issues of sustainability and life quality. It examines the concepts of sustainability, urban sustainability and urban life quality. It also analyzes the population growth, the urban evolution of the municipality from its origin to the present day and results obtained in the city’s spatial configuration. It selects indicators of sustainability and life quality related to urban aspects and demonstrates the data found with specific tables and maps, by neighborhood, in the social and environmental dimensions. Through the demographic, economic, social, housing, environmental and infrastructure indicators, it defines the levels of sustainability using the tool of the Barometer of Sustainability. With a single aggregated index of the obtained data, it constructs the diagram of the Barometer of Sustainability and demonstrates the final result presenting the level of sustainability of the city as almost sustainable. It also evaluates selected economic, human, social and health indicators. Finally, with all the data found and the evaluations carried out, it infers the life quality of Vitória da Conquista with the aim of contributing to a better targeting of municipal urban public policies. |
