Resumo: This work presents a research that was developed with students of the 4th year of Elementary School, in a public school in the municipality of Duque de Caxias, RJ, entitled Financial Education and Conscious Consumption: didactic tasks in the initial years of elementary school. Its objective is to encourage students to have a more conscious consumption; reflect changes in attitude toward the environment in which they live; develop a didactic sequence that will improve the educational practice and build an educational product, starting from the hypothesis that the work with Financial Education should begin from Elementary School, making long-term attitudes can be more effective in relation to consumption habits. It emerged from the concern to encourage students to have a more conscious consumption, valuing healthy snacks, and the need to discuss good eating habits in school life, reflect and promote changes in attitude towards the environment in which they live. It suggests working at the attitudinal dimension, from an early age, in order to contribute to a more dynamic and responsible society, with individuals prepared and aware of the sustainable development of the planet. The research methodology employed is the Didactic Engineering, so a Didactic Sequence was constructed with the students, held in weekly meetings, seeking a more playful perspective in the work in question, through fables, videos, discussions, drawings, interviews, among others. Its description is based on the Theory of Didactic Situations, which presents as a presupposition the fact that the student makes satisfactory decisions, as well as putting them into practice in their day by day. Because it is a Professional Master's Degree, the construction of the educational product was elaborated in a children's booklet format, titled Mother, can I buy it? Acting as a didactic material to support the student and teacher. We observed during the activities that some objectives were achieved, noting that the research intends to "plant the seed in each child", stimulating the critical awareness of the students to have autonomy in dealing with their financial resources in the future. The work was carried out by the Research and Research Group in the Teaching of Mathematics and Sciences, at the base of CNPq and validated by the University of Grande Rio.
