Resumo: | We have now enough evidence that it is feasible to use sensors based on the acquisition of bioelectric signals in the field of augmentative and alternative communication. Moreover, they are particularly suitable for people with severe motor disabilities, for example, people with high level spinal cord injury or locked-in syndrome. The development of solutions for this kind of people involves the discovery of ways to use sensors that adjust to the user needs, translating their intentions in commands. Thus, this work treats of the development of a multimodal interface controlled by different kinds of signals (Electromyography, Electrooculography, Acceleration and ON/OFF button). The device was applied for controlling an alternative communication software based on automatic scanning and single on/off commands. For that, we have developed a device that can be adapted in several users without the need for laborious analysis or expensive equipment. The sensor developed here has been successfully tested in patients with severe motor disabilities. |
