Resumo: The Chinese economic growth since its Reforms in 1978 point to the development of a new economic growth strategy. With the rise of Deng Xiaoping, China began several transformations in its policy, economy and society with the goal of achieving prosperity. Deng Xiaoping's reformist point of view is reflected in the adoption of liberal measures, shifting the paradigm of Chinese politics from prior leaderships. His contribution is also noted when analyzing the reconstruction of the country’s ideology, allowing its government to embody foreign capital. The building of the Socialism with Chinese Characteristics is a process of development, which began in 1978, that is aligned with the nation’s posture of opening up, both politically and economically. Through this process, the political desire of China to enter the World Trade Organization is framed as an example of international insertion as well as the adoption of liberal practices in its economy with the goal of overcoming its underdevelopment. This work aims to analyze the relation between these dynamics, noting how the membership procedures to the WTO influence the building of the Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.
