Resumo: The Espinhaço Mountain Range, located in Minas Gerais and Bahia States, has a large number of Angiosperms s endemic species, mainly the Asteraceae family. This family has 1,600-1,700 genera and 24,000 species in 43 tribes worldwide, of which two tribes, Heliantheae s. l. and Vernonieae, respectively are the third and fifth largest in the world,. In Brazil, the family is represented by 2,045 species, and the tribes and Vernonieae and Heliantheae s. l. respectively are the second and third largest in Brazil. Vernonieae has 55 genera with 434 species, 331 species exclusively Brazilian, while Heliantheae s. l. has about 48 genera distributed in 379 species, and of these, 199 occurs only in this country. Given the representativeness of these tribes and the floristic importance of the Espinhaço Mountain Range this study presents taxonomic treatments of Heliantheae s. l. and Vernonieae to the Parque Estadual do Biribiri (PEB) in Diamantina, Minas Gerais. The specimens studied were collected between 2011 and 2012 and are deposited in the Herbarium Uberlandense. Additionally materials from other herbaria were examined (DIAM, SPF, UEC, ESA and BHCB). Treatments includes identification keys for the species, morphological descriptions, taxonomic comments, geographical data and figures for each of the tribes. The identifications were made using specialized literature. To Heliantheae s. l. were found nine genera with 16 species: Acanthospermum (1 sp.), Aspilia (3 spp.), Bidens (3 spp.), Calea (4 spp.), Cosmos (1 sp.) Dimerostemma (1 sp.), Galinsoga (1 sp.), Melampodium (1 sp.), Viguiera (1 sp.). To Vernonieae were found 14 genera and 56 species: Chronopappus (1 sp.), Chrysolaena (2 spp.), Echinocoryne (1 sp.), Eremanthus (4 spp.), Elephantopus (2 spp.), Lepidaploa (7 spp.), Lessingianthus (13 spp.), Lychnophora (13 spp.), Minasia (4 spp.), Paralychnophora (1 sp.), Piptocarpha (1 sp.) Piptolepis (2 spp.), Proteopsis (1 sp.) and Vernonanthura (4 spp.). The tribes studied had markedly representativeness of species (72 spp.) and the number of endemic species (27 spp.).
