Resumo: The current work intends to analyze the importance of the use of technology on the teach of Geography and Cartography at school. To this, will be presented the research of the Postgraduate Program master’s in Geography at the Federal University of Uberlândia, in which we propose a critical analysis of the free software’s potentialities as a pedagogical tool for use in the preparation of didactic material in which the software technology QGIS will be a tool utilized in the research that involves teachers of the municipal system of Uberlândia - MG. The free softwares are programs and computer applications that are accessible to the public, free and provide the change of any product, that can be a map or a letter, for being both generate in digital platforms. The methodological procedure of the research were conducted through the application of questionnaires and the realization of a workshop in which we presented some of the QGIS software functions, in addition to develop a dialogue with some authors, providing a reflection through the public policies role in digital inclusion, Geography’s curriculum and the teach of school cartography. Therefore, the utilization of technology at school can enable a major involvement of the social beings, teachers and students in the construction of knowledge and spacial representations so important in the learning process of school cartography.
