Resumo: This thesis aims to reflect upon the animals written in literature, thus, devoting itself to the zooliterature, mainly on the Animal Studies research line. The methodology of critical-interpretative analysis from selected texts of the writer João Guimarães Rosa, through which the theme animality comes to light was favorable to the objectives of this investigation, especially the main one: to know the animals. To do so, firstly, we go through the theoretical form, however already anticipating some discursive analyzes, the contents of important works based on the field of Animal Studies whose discussions are, to some extent related to the questions about animality/humanity. Then, we present the interpretative proposal of seeking the paradigmatic animal figures written by Guimarães Rosa, throughout his artistic and literary career, using a selection, whose texts show besides multiple analytical biases for the theme about animals, and, therefore, to broaden our view of the relationship between man and animal, justifications for the presence of animals listed to compose the catalog of the second chapter, considered in this thesis, rosian Icon animals. Subsequently, we behold the “Zoo” serie texts, entitled Zoo (Whipsnade Park, London); Zoo (Rio, Quinta da Boa Vista); Zoo (Hagenbecks Tierpark, Hamburgo) ; Zoo (Hagenbecks Tierpark, Hamburgo Stellingen), Zoo (Jardin Des Plantes) e Zoo (Parc Zoologique du Bois de Vincennes), enabling better understandings of situations concerning the Poetic-Rosian Zooliterature. It was absolutely necessary, before going through these six texts, from “Ave, palavra”, not only the development of the previous chapters of this thesis, but also the investigative trajectory, which began some years ago, which even culminated in the dissertation The Bestiaries of Guimarães Rosa, in Ave, palavra, has now become this work provided with deeper readings, revealing in a more straightforward way, the constructive path of very significant reflections to know, especially, literary.We work, because, the complexity of João Guimarães Rosa’s writing in relation to animality, and in its turn, to humanity, having as its main reference its unique way of expression and, in addition, to provide opportunities for formative experiences. Such knowledge was confirmed, in this research, as fundamentals for dealing with current circumstances, which involve the figure of the animal, human or not.
