The present work, entitled Carlos Drummond de Andrade and the myth of the wandering Jew, focuses in analyze and interpret the book entitled Boitempo – Menino Antigo (Boitempo – Old Boy), by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, published in 1968, noting especially the various poems in which the author evokes in his child memoirs the presence of Catholicism, as well as the punishments and penances imposed by the priests to rebel and curious boys. We will analyze with greater emphasis the poem entitled “A incômoda companhia do Judeu Errante” (The troublesome company of the wandering Jew), taking into consideration, in addition to the questions of the theory of the Lyric, as the graphics, lexical, syntactical, phonic and semantic aspects, also a historical and literary research on the legend of the wandering Jew and his stay in the popular imagination.
