Resumo: | The present work aims to examine Joker’s conception as a character in the graphic novel The Killing Joke (1988), text by Alan Moore, art by Brian Bolland, published in Brazil by DC Comics/ Panini. We analyze the way he is built as a contemporary villain, the philosophy that triggers his actions and the fundamental characteristics that make him unique in the universe of comics and in the imagery that descends from it – which is reverberated in movies and video games. Based on notions of myth and hero and anti-hero and on considerations about the literary character and, specifically, the comic book character, this work addresses The Killing Joke as a relevant turning point in the trajectory of both the Joker as Batman’s key opponent and the superhero narrative as a complex artistic production worthy of study. |
