Resumo: With increased life expectancy and advances in health sciences, it is becoming increasingly frequent, the onset of chronic degenerative conditions. Kidney diseases are in this range, and evolve in order to submit the patient under hemodialysis treatment. The present study deals with the oral health of patients in dialysis, with the objective of obtaining universal validity indices in oral health surveys, for this particular group. This is a cross-sectional study, descriptive, epidemiological. From the evaluation of 25 patients in hemodialysis met results through verification of indices as the DMF (Decayed, missing teeth and closed off), CPI (Community Periodontal Index) and PIP (Periodontal insertion loss) incompatible with those placed as goals by WHO for the year 2010. The results were on average of 17.1 for DMF, 40% of patients had CPI 3 or 4, corresponding to the periodontal pocket and in relation to PIP the younger patients showed less loss of periodontal insertion index. From these results and their comparison with those of national oral health Research, one can demonstrate the need to develop specific programs of oral health for patients on hemodialysis.
