Resumo: This work aims to analyze the behavior of cooperation for innovation in Brazilian industry. For this purpose, the thesis was structured based on the definition of specific objectives, which are: the goal of Chapter 1 is to develop a review of the theoretical and conceptual debate about cooperation as an innovative strategy; the goal of Chapter 2 is analyze cooperation for innovation in the Brazilian industry in 2008, 2011 and 2014; and the goal of Chapter 3 is to identify the main relationships in university-industry cooperation, in addition to identifying the location of cooperation partners from research groups in Brazil from 2008 to 2016. The generation of innovations in companies has been driven by an environment increasingly competitive and through more complex production processes, adopting a cooperation strategy as an activity of high importance for obtaining knowledge and innovation. For the empirical analysis developed in the work, we used descriptive statistics from data obtained through special tabulation of the PINTEC editions of 2008, 2011 and 2014 and data from the CNPq Research Groups Directory (DGP) for the years 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2016. Among the results found, it appears that there was an increase in the adoption of the cooperation strategy by companies and that companies that cooperate to innovate have a higher number of workers, higher education of employees, more support from government, higher net sales revenues, export more frequently, have higher R&D expenses per worker, are less likely to encounter obstacles to innovation compared to companies that do not use this strategy. In relation to university-industry cooperation, there was an increase in the frequency of this type of cooperation, and research groups tend to cooperate with partners located in the same state.
