Resumo: The research proposal “Centro Socioeducativo de Uberlândia (CSEUB): Lugar de Cidadania?” has emerged as a topic of interest through the contact with youthful offenders, acting as teacher of the Socio-educational Center of Uberlândia. This condition allowed to experience the daily life of the youthful offenders. The main goal was to analyze the CSEUB Center as a space that promotes the citizenship of young offenders. The specific objectives were: to discuss the Category "Place" as a basis for the understanding of the Socio-educational Center; To know the history of the penalization of youthful offenders before the Brazilian law, from criminalization until the process of socio-education; To question the subjects involved with the CSEUB on the Socio-educational System and the training for citizenship, and To analyze the opinion of the youthful offenders themselves. The Methodology of Research was qualitative with Bibliographic Survey, analysis of the laws that deal with the child and the youth, Fieldwork with the purpose of apply the questionnaires and to know the reality of the CSEUB. 17 professionals in the Uberlândia’s unit were participated, including: Socio-educational Agent, Social Worker, Teachers, Pedagogues and General Attendance. Also, 43 young offenders from Elementary School 2, and 11 adolescent offenders from High School were participated.
