Resumo: Medium-resolution spatial satellite images (20 meters) are widely used in the mapping of central pivots. The reason for this is that pivots have well-defined circular shapes, which facilitates their identification in the images. This paper describes the temporal-spatial evolution of using central pivot irrigation technique in Paraná river basin in the state of Minas Gerais. This basin region contains part of the sub-basins of Paranaíba river, Grande river and Piracicaba and Jaguari rivers. This study aims to know the growth of expansion the current reality in irrigated agriculture. A total of 3,889 central pivot units were identified in 2019, and this number of pivots was higher than the entire state of Minas Gerais from 2008 to 2010 (3,781). The largest number of central pivots is in the municipalities of Unaí and Paranaíba river, with 362 and 315 units, respectively. The estimated total of irrigated areas is 222,434 hectares, a value close to the entire irrigated area in the state of Minas Gerais between 2008 and 2010 (254,875 hectares). The largest irrigated area was 276 hectares (Perdizes) and the smallest of 2 hectares (Centralina), both located in the sub-basin of the Paranaíba river. In relation to the portion of the sub-basins in the study area, Paranaíba river has an area 18% smaller than Grande river, however, Paranaíba river has a quantity of irrigated area with central pivot that is 74% higher than that of Granderiver. The sub-basin part of Piracicaba and Jaguari rivers has no central pivots.
