Resumo: | Breast cancer is a malignant neoplasy more commonly found among women and, wordwide, it is the second type of cancer more frequently found. The death rates due to cancer in our country is so high, probably because of late diagnosis. The goals of this study were to check and compare the adaptative efficiency and the psychological, social and occupational operation of elderly women who underwent both total and parcial breast ablation because of breast cancer. Twelve patients assisted in the Malignant Mastology sector of the HC-UFU participated in this study, forming two groups of six women; being one consisting of patients who underwent breast surgery already in old age (G1) and the other consisting of women who underwent the surgery before 60 years old (G2). The used instruments were the Operational Adaptive Diagnostic Scale (EDAO), in its two evaluation proposal (EDAO and EDAO/R) and Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF). It was checked statistically significantly differences between the two groups, when comparing adaptive efficacy in elderly women with breast cancer by the EDAO/R; adaptive efficacy and the work developed by the participants according to the two evaluation proposals of EDAO; adaptive efficacy (according to EDAO) and organic functioning presented by each group of women; positive micro-factors (productivity sector) considering only the activities developed by them daily and the group of four sectors of personality functioning. In all these testes comparative analysis, G2 showed a better adaptation compared with G1. It was found intergroup positive correlations in the studies performed with G1, as to the adaptive efficacy according to the second evaluation proposal of EDAO and the sum of the fitness of affective- relational sectors and productivity; and the adaptive efficacy according to the two evaluation proposals of EDAO. Other positive correlations were checked for each one of the two groups: as to the global functioning through the GAF and adaptive efficiency according to the first evaluation proposal of EDAO, sometimes considering, through this one the organic situation shown by elderly women with breast cancer, sometimes not considering their organic functioning. It was concluded that the first evaluation proposal of EDAO, to the detriment of EDAO/R and GAF, was the most sensible instrument for adaptive evaluation and the global functioning of the studied population, for this is a scale that enables quality and quantity evaluation, considering the organic limitations shown by the subjects of the research, due both to the clinical situation of breast cancer and to the natural health decaying because of age. |
