Resumo: | The effects of the volume fraction of reinforeing phase on the abrasive wear of multiphase materiais are presented. The effects of the mechanical configuration imposed by the test are also analyzed. Binary Al-Si alloys, with Silicon up to 21%, were used as model system. The results of three body abrasive wear tests showed a minimum on the abrasive wear rate as the volume fraction of Silicon varied, while the two body abrasive tests showed a maximum. SEM observation of the abraded surfaces showed the importance of the mechanical configuration of the test and allowed the determination of the micro-mechanisms of wear. In addition, the wear processes were simulated by means of sclerometric techniques using a constant load sclerometer for the two-body and an especially constructed pendulum single pass grooving apparatus for the three-body abrasive wear process. The results of these simulations were in good agreement with the global abrasion tests and showed the potentialities of this technique for the analysis and understanding of the abrasive wear process. |
