This research aims to study three cartoons of Benedito Bastos Barreto, better known as Belmonte, which presents as a theme the dictator Adolf Hitler. We will study the cartoons taken from Caricatura dos Tempos, which is a compilation of the artist's work, organized and published by Editora Melhoramentos in 1982, and Belmonte: vida e obra de um dos maiores cartunistas brasileiros de todos os tempos, by Gonçalo Junior (2017), from which we took other images. In the work Caricatura dos Tempos are gathered interesting drawings that criticize the dictator of Germany and other dictators. The artist satirizes Hitler's political outbursts in a good-humored way, with his unmistakable parody trait using a feathered beak and his ink, in black and white, also exaggerating in the dialogues, addictions and habits of the chancellor of Germany. Belmonte did an intelligent and important work, both in his cartoons and in his chronicles, since it provoked both laughter and denounced a time marked by the tragedy and excesses of a totalitarian government. Studying the cartoonist is also to reflect on Brazil and the rudeness of current politics. Our studies will be based on Herman Lima (História da caricatura no Brasil), Ian Kershaw (Hitler), George Minois (História do riso e do escárnio), Sigmund Freud (O chiste e sua relação com o inconsciente), Camila Alavarce (A ironia e suas refrações), Henri Bergson (O riso: Ensaio sobre a significação da comicidade) and Mikhail Bakhtin (A Cultura Popular na Idade Média e no Renascimento).
