Resumo: The present work is the result of a master's research in the Graduate Program in Social Sciences (PPGCS) of the Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU), with the objective of analyzing the context of education at the State School of Elementary and High School - 2nd address, located inside the Prison Sergeant Jorge, in the city of Coromandel / MG, in 2019, addressing the senses and meanings of teachers, students of private schools of liberty and prison officers for the respect of the challenges and the possibilities of education for resocialization. This research, which is a qualitative field, becomes relevant due to the need for a critical look at the reality experienced inside the prison units and also to collaborate in stimulating the viability of the existing work proposals, aiming to encourage the elaboration of new proposals based on the current legislation, but that consider the concrete reality of the re-educated students enrolled in the prison's school. Seeking a theoretical framework focused on Marx's historical and dialectical materialism and in accordance with the problematic proposed in this study, we seek to discuss the relations of labor and capitalism, the management of misery, the logic of incarceration and the bases and functioning of education within of the prison system. In view of these aspects, we opted to conduct the research at the Sergeant Jorge Prison, located in Coromandel / MG, where there is a prison school in which teachers, students deprived of liberty and prison officers maintain social relationships in different ways. In this sense, the introduction discusses the way of thinking, the research procedures and the structure of the dissertation. In the first chapter, fundamental concepts for understanding the proposed analysis were discussed, which are work and capitalism; economic misery and its management; incarceration; resocialization. In the second chapter, the main aspects of education in the context of the prison system were discussed. In the third chapter, it was proposed to analyze and discuss the data collected during the interviews with the participants inside the prison unit, understanding the experiences and views of the social reality in which they live, including the prison and the prison school. Finally, the results made it possible to understand the senses and meanings that the research participants formulate in relation to the challenges and possibilities of education given in the prison unit with respect to re-socialization.
