Resumo: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has undergone changes with the advent of new technologies that allow better diagnosis and treatment planning for craniofacial disorders. As an example, we have orthognathic surgery, maxillofacial reconstructions, and temporomandibular joint prostheses, which, through threedimensional planning based on computerized tomography, can customize prostheses, surgical guides, fixation plates, among others. Thus, by combining clinical and virtual planning, we have greater treatment predictability. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the long-term efficacy and stability of treatment with temporomandibular joint prostheses, to compare the existing difference between the virtually constructed guide and the guides manufactured by different technologies, and to evaluate the position of the jaws after virtual planning in orthognathic surgery in open-source software. The results demonstrated that total prosthesis of the temporomandibular joint is a safe procedure with a high survival rate. The guides built in the different manufactures showed similar accuracy, and it is also possible to conclude that the open-source software allows acceptable accuracy in virtual planning in orthognathic surgery.
