Resumo: The research was born from a constant observation of literatures and movies, for young adults, about totalitary governments and chaotic scenarios – dystopian ones -. The main purpose of this work is to understand why literatures such as Hunger Games are so attractive, not only for teenager readers but also for young adults; and, as a consequence of this comprehension, it acquires a clear vision about the contemporary world and the attraction that those romances have over the young adult public. In order to get that, it was important to know about the process of the writing of this trilogy, to understand the intertextuality with historical periods of the World and American history, as well as the emergence of novel; sci-fi and utopia/dystopia. Besides that, it was studied literatures about power theories, the simulacrum, the show society, among others, as theoretical foundation of this research to get a deeper insight into the contemporary society and recognize in the work under study the socio-historical conditions in which this reader is formed, and the plot of the work as well. Hunger Games as a dystopian work and, consequently, sci-fi brings a vision of an imagined future from what is known about of the reality of the time of its production bringing a warning about a possibility of a society that can become real someday. The young readers find in this work echoes from their own lives which are under pressure of the academic or social accomplishments and the competition from the labor market, like Katniss, the heroine of the trilogy. They feel compelled to fight a war imposed on them in the name of survival. This research is supposed to elucidate how the world has been seen by the young adults so that it may help many teachers how to deal with them better.
