Resumo: This research analyzes the adoption of public policies as skillful instruments for the recognition of sexual rights in childbirth, consisting in the protection of the sexuality of women who are submitted to episiotomy, an obstetric procedure routinely adopted despite the display of recommendations for restricted use, a since the performance without clinical evidence is a kind of obstetric violence Episiotomy as obstetric violence can take on several forms, but in this study, the prism is highlighted of sexual rights (sexual obstetric violence), as well as the aspect of institutional violence perpetrated by the State through the health teams of health establishments. that make up the Unified Health System by neglecting the occurrence of tortuous treatments. There is also the intention to demonstrate that episiotomy consists of violence directed at women and to reveal that this is imbued in the context of symbolic domination, exercise of state biopower and sexual access to the female body. Finally, the last scope is to analyze the existence of public policies under the bias of the Theory of Recognition in the City of Uberlândia in order to ascertain whether sexual rights are contemplated by such instruments as a way of combating violent episiotomy and achieving equality of women. women with unequal power distribution between genders.
