Resumo: This thesis, "Work and Society: Manufacturing Organization and Educational Organization at the Open University of Brazil," presents visions about distance education; its story; organization, implementation and work at the Open University of Brazil from the legislation; manufacturing process in education and organizational forms in network. Its theme is the manufacturing and educational organization in distance education, and as an object of study the organizational model of the Open University of Brazil. The methodology used is based on the use of bibliographical references and documentary analyzes correlated to the theme and the qualitative approach gave form to the investigation. This research’s general objective is to analyze and understand the Open University System of Brazil as an educational organization and manufacturing organization, in the reference period from 2004 to 2017. The other objectives are divided into understanding the historical development of distance education in Brazil, the implementation of the Open University Consortium do Brazil was carried out, to analyze how distance education is constituted in a manufacturing system, to analyze the various models of organizational networks in correlation with the Open University of Brazil as a network structured organization and to identify the impact of the model in the work of education professionals. The formulated thesis is that the organizational structure of the Open University System of Brazil is constituted as a factory model of education, with Taylorist / Fordist characteristics and also of flexible production organizations, potentializing the fragmented formation.
