Resumo: This work concerns the synthesis and characterization of nanofluids consisting of silver nanoparticles dispersed in destilled water as base fluid. Stable solutions were produced at low concentrations, using the method called high-pressure homogenizer. Alumina nanofluid were also produced, howeverit was observed a fast agglomeration and deposition. The measure of the thermal conductivity was conducted through the transient hot wire method and the viscosity using a cone-plate rheometer. The experimental results for thermal conductivity were significantly higher than the correlations available in the literature to predict this property, however lower than othersexperimental results obtained in the literature. In relation to the viscosity, the results obtained for silver nanofluids were almost the samefound to the base fluid. A critical comparison was also carried out between experimental results and the correlations found in the literature to predict these properties of nanofluids, where demonstrated that the results are contradictory and there wasn t correlation that fitted properly the experimental results.
