Resumo: Th is investigation aimed at recovering the track of the Tech nica! Nursing Course at the Technical Health School (ESTES) of the Federal University of Uberlândia by recording the events and transformations as to the administrative and pedagogical aspects from 1971 to 1995. The qua/itative method of research was chosen bearíng in mind a historícal perspective by using the following research instruments: documentary research and analysis, oral statements, and field research. Focusing the administrative aspects, in the course o f its history, the Technical Nursing Course was first organized as a prívate school under the educationai system of Minas Gerais State from 1971 to 1981; afterwards, it became a pubiic and federai school and an integrated part o f the Federai University of Uberlândia. As far as the pedagogical aspects are concerned, the Technical Nursing Course has been managed by iegisiations and ruies which were set by society, the educationai system, and the institution itseif, and aiso by the reiationship concepts between man/worid, and subject/object. This has been considered in the iight of the aims of the Technical Nursing Course in different moments during its historícal path. The identity of the Technical Nursing Course has therefore been constituted by its inherentfacets: DOiNG, EXISTING, and BEiNG.
