Resumo: | The theme developed in this paper refers to the forms of use and appropriation of public squares in the city of Belo Horizonte - MG, specifically the following squares: Liberdade, Rui Barbosa, and Sete de Setembro, because public spaces are constantly changing due to various issues such as economic and political issues. Therefore, some questions about the analyzed public squares were raised. How can these squares contribute to people's well-being? What is the use and appropriation of public spaces like nowadays? Are there differences regarding the use and appropriation of these spaces? And finally, how is the maintenance and environmental conservation of these spaces? The general objective of this work is to understand how the studied squares are inserted in the city of Belo Horizonte today. For (TOZONI REIS, 2003, p.14) that "seeks the transformations of actions and the existing relations between social and cultural phenomena, which cannot be measured only quantitatively; they must be analyzed and understood in their totality and multiplicity. Thus, the research reflected on the significance of the square today in the political, social, and cultural urban structure of the city, because the square reflects a form of appropriation of space proper to capitalist society, and that is independent of its geography.
