Resumo: | The growth of cities, together with the lack of effective urban planning, which guarantees environmental quality for the population, has contributed to the incorrect disposal of solid waste. This context becomes even more delicate when observed in neighborhoods formed by housing complexes of social interest, since the lack (or precariousness) of urban cleaning services has generated problems for the health of society and changed the conditions of environmental quality. In this sense, the objective of this research is to present the conditions of urban cleaning in the neighborhood Nova Ituiutaba I, located in the city of Ituiutaba, which is constituted by residences of the “Programa Minha Casa Minha Vida”. The methodological procedures adopted to carry out this work were: i) bibliographic survey; ii) preliminary field visit; iii) elaboration of observation itinerary; iv) monitoring; v) systematization of data and preparation of maps; and viii) analysis of results and final writing. From the collection and analysis of the data obtained during the three monitoring carried out between the months of September 2017 and June 2018. The results, organized in tables and represented by images, present a great variety of waste types discarded. These were organized and classified into six categories, which are: paper, plastic, building material, organic material, furniture and appliances in disuse and others. These types of wastes identified in the monitoring were improperly disposed of in the sidewalks, gutters and empty lots, demonstrating the precariousness of the urban cleaning service. In addition, these residues can significantly compromise the neighborhood's environmental quality conditions and endanger the health and safety of the population. Therefore, the need for greater participation of the public power in inspecting and promoting improvements in the urban cleaning service, as well as investing in environmental education projects, in order to show the population the benefits of keeping the neighborhood clean, both in the social and environmental spheres. |
