Resumo: The three phase induction motors are very widespread machines in industry, with a major role in the energy consumption in Brazil. Given the current conditions of distribution networks about power quality, it is important to study the efficiency of these machines when fed with harmonics and voltage unbalances. For this purpose, a research of the losses and efficiency considering an ideal network was made, without any power quality problems, through laboratory tests followed by computer simulations. Then, based on the adopted model, computer simulations were performed to study the losses and efficiency behavior related to a non-ideal network, containing in a first moment harmonics and then unbalances. The study was made comparing the standard motors with the high-efficiency, since the first represents the majority in the industrial segment. The results will show that the motors performance caused by the considered quality power indicators is mostly affected when the mechanical load is dropping down. Still, it could be observed that the high efficiency induction motor behavior against these indicators is better, more emphasized for loads up to 50%.
