Resumo: This research approaches the landscape of the railways from a morphological and visual analysis of the landscape. Its study outline is the area of influence of the railway line in Teresina, capital of Piauí. The choice of this theme especially considers the lack of research on this theme for the area in question, which also had its morphological particularity neglected in the new Master Plan of 2019. The objective of this research is to build a narrative about the landscape and the urban form the surroundings of the Teresina railway through the methodology of landscape units and visual analysis. This research is expected to provide an overview of the influence of the railway in the structuring of the urban fabric, in the transformation and formation of the landscape and in the morphological configuration of the city. As a methodology, first, documentary, and bibliographic research was carried out on urban narratives, railways in the contemporary context, landscape, landscape units and the historical context of the railway in Teresina. Then, the methods of Landscape Units and the visual analysis of space were applied to understand the reality of the morphology and landscape of the object of study. The research resulted in a small catalog of the railway landscape, consisting of a synthesis map, a landscape mosaic consisting of images and photographs, a synthesis table, a landscape gradation table and narratives. It was observed that the railway landscape manifests itself in different ways and its invisibility and/or disarticulation in the city originated from factors such as urban planning focused on highways, socio-environmental segregation and, in some specific cases, the existence of appropriation of the iron line by the population from the landscape transformation of the space due to the affective bond with the place where they live. In other words, the railroad both transforms the landscape and is transformed by it and the existence of this reciprocal relationship of transformations reveals the potential for articulating the railroad with the city. This research also contributes as a theoretical-methodological apparatus for future studies of the landscape by presenting flexible methodological possibilities that comprise the transformations of the landscape and its nuances.
