Resumo: | Introdution: Evaluating a training program after its completion is necessary to verify if the intended goals of the program were met. Objectives: The aim of this project is to elaborate and validate assessment tools for the evaluation process of nursing training programs; to assess the reaction to the method, place, facilitator, materials and schedule of the training offered to a nursing team; to measure the effectiveness of the evaluation process of the training program; and to analyze the impact of the results obtained from the training program. Methods: This project employed an exploratory, quantitative, correlational research with descriptive elements, and was performed in a general hospital located in the Greater São Paulo metropolitan area. Four tools to collect data were elaborated and validated through the Delphi method, which was applied in two rounds with panels of respectively 18 and 15 experts, who judged the contents of the tools and proposed suggestions. The data collection with the validated tools took place in three steps (30 days before the start of the program, throughout the training, and 30 days after its conclusion), lasting a total of four months in 2016. Twenty-eight certified assistant nurses participated in this research. The collected data were examined descriptively, and SPSS 20.0 and SAS 9.3 software were used to analyze statistical data. Results: The first evaluation revealed that reactions to the facilitator and method of training where mostly positive, with the rates of complete satisfaction at 75% and 64.3%, respectively. 50% of the participants fully approved the materials employed, while 42,9% were completely satisfied with the location of the training, and only 25% with the training schedule. The assessment of the instruction showed a visible improvement only in the number of right answers to the question 9, from a rate of 25% up to 71.4%. More than 70% of the professionals gave right answers to the questions 2,4,7,8, and 11 before the start of the training. On the other hand, fewer than 25% of the professionals provided right answers to the questions 6, 10, and 12, and remained at the same level even after the training. The mean score improved after the training (p=0.002). The evaluation of the application of the training procedures showed no changes in note-taking behavior in any of three items between the first and second assessments or between the second and third assessments. This result is likely due to the short interval between the assessments. The average interval between the first and second assessments was 1.96 days (DP=1.07 days) and 2.18 days between the second and third assessments (DP=1.33 days). The evaluation of the results of the training program showed an increase of appropriate notes for the items 1.1 (p=0.008), 1.3 (p=0.001), 2.1 (p=0.001), 2.2 (p=0.002), 2.3 (p=0.001), 2.4 (p=0.002), 3.1 (p=0.004), and 3.3 (p=0.001). The Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the evaluation of the results from the training program, and showed no significant correlation between changes in assessment items and changes in scores. Conclusion: All objectives were reached, and the four tools contributed by this project may be used in further training evaluation contexts not only in the hospital where the research was conducted, but also in other national and international healthcare institutions. |
