Resumo: | Introduction: pregnancy is a physiological event that can lead to decrease in Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). Being regarded as a pathological situation, this event and its correlated conditions would commonly be treated with drugs by the allopathic medicine, which might pose some risks to the fetus. However, the Anthroposophical integrative view, a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approach, points out the stimulation of vital energy recuperation as a possible inducer of changes in health perception for pregnant women. Objective: to observe the Health-Related Quality of Life variation in women during pregnancy and puerperium. The evaluation was based on the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form (SF-36). Method: retrospective longitudinal study of SF-36 questionnaires administered in three different moments: in the first appointment, in an appointment between the 36th±1 week of pregnancy and another within the puerperium period. Results: 65 patients have completed the three questionnaires within the period of the study. SF-36’s eight domains and their behaviors throughout the prenatal and puerperal care period were analyzed. Health-Related Quality of Life decreased by the third trimester, with recuperation in the puerperium. Three, out of the eight domains, reduced significantly: physical functioning, role physical and bodily pain. Emotional and social components have not undergone significant changes. Scores in mental health and vitality, as well as general health status, were higher in puerperium. ix Conclusion: Multiprofessional intervention broadened by the anthroposophical perspective fosters the Health-Related Quality of Life in women through gestation and puerperium. |
