Resumo: INTRODUCTION. Radio is an effective medium for health knowledge dissemina-tion. Internet radio is an alternative that can help expanding this dissemination. The gray literature describes experiences in health communication using internet radio that can be a prime body of knowledge for model construction. These expe-riences are particularly valuable as a point of reference for expanding the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) communication activities of disseminating health knowledge to the Brazilian community. OBJECTIVES. To construct and evaluate an internet-based radio model for health knowledge dissemination. ME-THODS. The study was carried out in six steps: 1) literature review of studies on radio as an educational medium in Brazil; 2) search of reports of previous projects developed on radio and education and radio and health; 3) systematic review on radio and health promotion; 4) trial with students of the Open Universi-ty of the Third Age (UATI) at UNIFESP; 5) construction of an internet-based radio model, and 6) evaluation of the model constructed. RESULTS. The literature re-view and reports of previous projects served as a base for the construction of the proposed model. The trial with UATI students provided data for the production of contents focusing on the third age. The systematic review confirmed the hypo-thesis that radio is an effective vehicle for health knowledge dissemination. The web portal was made available to the audience (http://www.radiosaude.unifesp.br) with 30 audio products and the average ap-proval rates were as follows: credibility and comprehensibility, 100.0%; useful-ness, 96.8%; immediate approval, 87.0%; and SUS usability, 86.5%. CONCLU-SIONS. An internet-based radio model for health knowledge dissemination, known as Radio UNIFESP Web, was proposed and approved by expert and lay audiences. This project allows to expanding UNIFESP’s social function as health knowledge disseminator.
