This dissertation discusses the notions of belonging to the kingdom of Portugal in the Seventeenth Century versions of Trovas of Bandarra reunited in the period. Different from a historiographical position which defended that there was nationalism in Portugal, in particular in the Restored Portugal, we have tried to approach the concepts related to the idea of belonging to the kingdom seeking for their use in the particular moments of speech of each author or copyist. This assessment of the subject allowed to show that the concepts of nation, in the current sense of the term, do not apply to the Early Modern period and, moreover, one should instead pay attention to the multitude of proposals when thinking about belonging and also political and religious conformations for the formation of the empire Portuguese.
