This research aimed to understand the appropriation of the UFSM campus as a leisure space at weekends. To achieve the research, we sought the assumptions of the qualitative approach, in order to achieve the objectives of the study we opted for the fieldwork. The data collection occurred through observations, semi-structured interviews, being interviewed the assiduous frequenters of the Campus, and the Manager involved in the projects realized by UFSM. To analyze the data we seek inspiration in the assumptions of content analysis. Based on this study, we have identified that the precariousness of the existing public spaces and the disregard of the authorities in the municipality of Santa Maria make the UFSM Campus one of the main public leisure spaces for the local community, constituting a time / space of experiences of cultural and playful manifestations, opposing the logic of leisure goods. The goers look for in the Campus, a pleasant space, with security and that has as common objective, the experience of leisure.
