Resumo: | This research investigates the cultural representation of the homonym character of the novel Lolita (1955), written by Vladimir Nabokov, from its narrator point of view. Considering its representation is deeply marked by the movie adaptation by Stanley Kubrick (1962) and by Adrian Lyne (1997), the research shows a comparison between both, the novel and the movie text, in order to demonstrate how the pedophilia, a central subject in the novel, is changed into a romantic love of a middle-aged man by a seductive teenager. Thus, the nymphet myth is diffused into the mass culture. In order to demystify the nymphet myth, created by the cinema, the study will present how the relations of the male domination, mainly concerning the female body, are established. According to our hypothesis, in the same way Lolita is constructed by the patriarchal society, Humbert is also a construction of the society which discriminates any behavior deflect (in this case, the pedophilia). Lolita is changed into women and constructed by the (patriarchal) society as well Humbert is changed into an abnormal being and constructed by the (“normal”) society. |
