Resumo: | This dissertation aims, by a reception bias, to investigate use and appropriation of books by adolescent readers, in order to understand the impact of digital support in the ways adolescents read, through the mediation of sociability, ritualism and technicality. The main problem is: How does internet transform reading practices of adolescents? The foundation of the research is the cultural studies, specially the theoretical-methodological perspective of Martín-Barbero (2003) mediations. Methodologically, it was developed an exploratory study organised in two stages, the first was the application of forms and informal interviews in 2016 and the application of forms in 2017. The second stage of the exploratory study was the selection of the sample to which the semi-structured int/erviews were applied. In the next phase it was formed a discussion group with the interviewed adolescents in order to debate together reading practices and how they are related to books and the new media. The specific goals of this dissertation are: a) to comprehend the habits and preferences of Santa Maria (Brazil) adolescent readers; b) to identify possible changes in reading practices through the access of digital media; c) to analyse the importance of books to adolescents. The analysis was based in the categories listed from the mediations. As results, it was found that reading for adolescents is not limited to books. It is possible to perceive that new uses emerge in this connection between book and internet and that this context provides practices that not only remain but are also conditioned by the changes in those new media. Adolescents are reader users, internet users, spectators, followers and they flow through printed, online, movie theatres and mobile screens. Adolescents keep the habit of silent and intimate reading, but on the other hand dedicate themselves to shared reading, expanding stories as they produce new content and follow their peers. |
