This is a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, which aimed to: know the work of nurses with women in the Strategy Family Health Units (SFH) in the city of Santa Maria / RS, identify the facilities and difficulties of the work of nurses with women in SFH units and identify the strategies used by nurses in the work with women in the SFH units.The subjects of the research were twelve nurses who work in Strategy Family Health Units of the city of Santa Maria / RS, between May and July 2013. For the collection of the data, it was used a semistructured interview. The data were analyzed according to the proposed of Thematic Analysis, and resulted in the definition of five categories: The work of the nurses with women of Family Health; Technologies used by nurses at work; The organization of work with the women; Difficulties and facilities experienced by nurses at work with the women; and The suggestions of the nurses to improve the work with the women at Strategy Family Health. From the analysis of the data, it was possible to notice that the work of nurses with the women is performed based on standards and protocols established by the Ministry of Health, with the purpose of promotion, prevention and control of the disorders in health. Thus, the assistance work to the women requires an involvement of all professionals of the Family Health Team, as well as a management mobilization to enable the idealization of new actions and quality services to users of the Unified Health System.
