Resumo: | One of the forms of treatment for breast cancer is radiotherapy which is considered a local treatment and when performed in the thoracic region can lead to early or late pulmonary complications. In addition, patients undergoing treatment for breast cancer can undergo a series of transformations in their emotional state and in their routine of life. The objective of this study was to evaluate the functional profile of women receiving radiation therapy for breast cancer. It is an observational cross-sectional study, approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the local institution. Initially a sample was calculated and an ideal sample of 8 patients was estimated. This study had as inclusion criteria, women with diagnosis of breast cancer, between 30 and 70 years, submitted from 25 to 30 sessions of radiotherapy. Patients with respiratory symptoms, smokers, pulmonary / bone metastases, cardiac patients, users of antidepressants, with severe psychiatric disorders, who underwent neoadjuvant radiotherapy and were on chemotherapy concomitant with radiotherapy were excluded. Twelve women participated in the study, and pulmonary function evaluation was performed through spirometry and manovacuometry, functional capacity through the six-minute step test (TD6), fatigue by FACT-F questionnaire, sleep quality by PSQI questionnaire and anxiety and depression by the HAD scale. All evaluations were performed on the first and last day of radiotherapy during the period from December 2018 to May 2019. The normality of the variables was evaluated by the Shapiro-Wilk test and the comparison between the moments by the two-tailed Student T test for paired samples at the significance level of p <0.05. There was an increase in the means of forced vital capacity (CVF) and reduction in the means of TD6, after treatment, however, they remained within normality in the two moments investigated without differences in the other variables. It was concluded that short-term radiotherapy did not cause alteration in the functional profile of the patients, since the investigated variables remained in the parameters of normality. |
