This master's thesis proposes to analyze paleographically and philologically baptismal records and death certificates of slaves from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Under the light of the perspective of the Paleography, this work sought to verify the authorship of these manuscripts, comparing the signature's spelling of the clerical priests, which also allowed the knowledge about the state of conservation and the inherent characteristics of the documents to be known by the interested public. On the philological analysis, the objective is to present the facsimile and diplomatic editions of 42 texts, 32 baptisms and 10 death certificates, using the theoretical contribution of Cambraia (2005), and, from those, present Portuguese variations of the respective centuries.
